Factors associated with the adoption of financial management practices by Brazilian farmers

Objective: To identify characteristics associated with the adoption of financial management practices by farmers in the Triângulo Mineiro.
Methodology: A questionnaire was applied to 113 farmers in 20 cities of the Triângulo Mineiro. To the hypothesis test, it was use multivariate regression analysis. After obtaining the results, additional tests, which included the use of interaction variables and factor analysis, it were perform to verify the robustness of the model.
Results and contributions of the article: The study identified that the age of the producer, knowledge of production costs, participation in training on financial management and the perception of the financial management relevance are factors related to the adoption of related practices to this management. The possible contributions of this study lie in understanding the managerial characteristics of rural producers in an important Brazilian agribusiness region, as well as revealing information that may support government strategies, rural unions and cooperatives, financial institutions and others interested in improving rural management.
